Internet Explorer

What do I need to install and use Global Sources search tools on my Internet Explorer (IE) browser?
You need:
- Windows XP/2000
- IE browser version 6+
- Google Toolbar version 4+
And an internet connection. Installation is easy — please see the toolbar introduction page for details.

Both Google Toolbar and the Global Sources search tools are free to use.

The browser asks me to install Google Toolbar instead of the Global Sources search tools. Can I not install the Google Toolbar?
You need to install the Google Toolbar on your IE before you can add the Global Sources search tools. This is because the tools operate on the Google Toolbar platform, which itself also offers many useful tools.

To automatically install the Global Sources search tools, simply complete the Google Toolbar installation.

I already have Google Toolbar on my IE but I've been asked to install it again — why?
You might have a version of Google Toolbar older than the required version 4. Google Toolbar is asking to update your version, before it installs the Global Sources search tools.

What else can I do with the tools besides making searches on Global Sources?
You can click on the Global Sources icon to go straight to www.globalsources.com.

If you click on the small black arrow next to the icon, a menu will appear with 6 links to further information and services from Global Sources, including Product Alert, Trade Magazines, China Sourcing Reports, China Sourcing Fairs, Global Sources Direct and FreePhone.

The Google Toolbar also provides many other convenient tools, and the ability to add more.

Can I remove the Global Sources button on my Google Toolbar but keep the search tool in the search box?
Yes, to temporarily remove the Global Sources button on your toolbar:
    1.  Click on the small black arrow in the search box, next to the Google/Global Sources icon.
    2.  Select "Manage..." You will see Toolbar Options, and be in the "Buttons" tab.
    3.  Under "Custom Buttons", uncheck the Global Sources option and click OK.

The button will disappear from your toolbar, but can be turned back on by checking the option. You can still select the Global Sources icon inside the search box to search in Global Sources.

How do I completely remove the Global Sources search tools and/or Google Toolbar from my IE browser?
To remove only the Global Sources search tools:
    1.  Click on the small black arrow in the search box, next to the Google/Global Sources icon.
    2.  Select "Manage...". You will see Toolbar Options, and be in the "Buttons" tab.
    3.  Under "Custom Buttons", select the Global Sources option and click the "Remove" button on the right.
    4.  Finish by clicking OK.

To remove Google Toolbar from your IE:
    1.  Go to your Start Menu and click on Control Panel.
    2.  Double-click on the "Add or Remove Programs" icon.
    3.  Select "Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer" and click the "Remove" button.

Note: removing Google Toolbar will also remove all custom search tools under it.

When I make a product search in the toolbar search box, it gives me Google search results, not Global Sources results.
To get Global Sources search results instead of Google, you can use either of two methods.

a.  Use Global Sources button with a magnifying glass .
Enter your product keyword in the search box. The nearby Global Sources button will now have a small magnifying glass. Click on this to initiate the search.

b.  Switch the search box logo to Global Sources' logo:

1.  Click on the little black arrow next to the Google icon in the search box.
2.  Select Global Sources' icon from the drop-down menu.
3.  You can now enter your product keyword in the search box and click Go.

Firefox

Where is the Global Sources Search tool? I've installed it on Firefox but I can't find it.
Click on the little icon (Google by default) with a small down-pointing arrow on the left side of the search box. This opens up a menu of different search engines you can select. Click on the Global Sources red logo — you can now enter your keyword to search for products on Global Sources.
