Why does it take so long to download an e-magazine? Approximately how long does it take to download?

It varies from less than a minute for a small e-magazine (5 Mb) with high speed broadband to possibly over an hour, if you are downloading a bigger file (e.g., 40 Mb) over a dial-up connection. So it very much depends on the type and quality of your Internet connection and the size of the e-magazine.

While downloading the e-magazines I saw a 118 error message. What should I do?

This is likely due to a conflict between your Internet browser and Adobe Reader (Adobe Reader version 9 is known to conflict with Internet Explorer). Please download the latest Adobe Reader (currently version 11.0) for a smoother download process.

I'm having trouble accessing the Global Sources e-magazine PDFs online. I am using Google Chrome PDF. What can I do?

  B. Right click on the e-Magazine and select "Save as..."

  C. Right click on "View Online" hyperlink and select "Save link as..."

Alternatively, you may also want to enable Adobe PDF Reader plugin as your default reader in Google Chrome.

  3. Click "Enable" Adobe Reader plugin

I have problems downloading and viewing my e-magazine.
The PDF is blank after the download is completed. I see an error message that the file is corrupted or I/O error. Why is this happening and what should I do?

There could be a number of possible reasons (e.g., Internet congestion, Adobe Reader being out dated, conflicts with certain Internet browsers....) causing the error you see.

The file corrupted or I/O error message is likely due to download processing of large PDFs. Large PDF files are more prone to damage due to issues like Internet speed, network speed, etc. If the PDF download gets automatically disconnected after every few minutes, then it could result in the PDF file getting damaged.

Please try one or more of the following:

  1. Update Adobe Reader to the latest version (10.0.1 at the moment). Then try to download the files again.
  2. Download the e-Magazine by part and then combine it.
  3. Try downloading again at a different time of the day, avoiding peak hours.
  4. Clear your browser cookies/cache, then re-download the file. To clear cookies/cache:
    1. On Internet Explorer 8, go to Tools > Internet Options > Browsing History > Delete > Select Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and Browsing History
    2. On Internet Explorer 9, Click Safety > Delete browsing history... > Uncheck Preserve Favorites website data and check both Temporary Internet Files and Cookies then click Delete
    3. On Google Chrome, Click > Options > Under the hood > Under Privacy, click Clear Browsing Data > Select Clear browsing history, Clear download history & empty the cache
    4. On Mozilla Firefox, go to Tools > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage > Clear Now
  5. Check to see which version of Internet Explorer you are using by choosing Help > About Internet Explorer.
    1. If you are using Internet Explorer 6, upgrade to Internet Explorer 8. Or, use a different browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
    2. Go back to the GlobalSources.com/emag and refresh the page.
